[Mael-list] Making sparks about stealing Sparks.

Well, my dear sweet things.

An interesting debate indeed, anything that wakes me from my cyber slumber
is food for thought. A good healthy debate too, showing that really speaking
we're all here for the same reason eh?

We must of course thank Ned for keeping a watchful eye over proceedings, Sue
for making the whole thing possible, and the boys for er.. well Dicking
Around really. Not to mention meteorological reports from

Stockholm and bits of Scotland.

But yeah, isn't this whole issue a product of advancing technology, rapid
and currently incomplete changes in the music industry: yet within this
environment, the creators and purveyors of genius still need

To meet the demands of Maslow, and I'm sure no one on the list will deny
anyone involved in the production of Sparks material their fair share. It
seems to me that it doesn't matter when or how a CD or DVD gets released,
someone is always gonna rip it for their own nefarious gain, again this is a
part of the current technological environment.

As I look back at my own so-called 'bootleg' collections I see a certain
irony, in that as true fans of anything we are possibly guilty of the worst
copyright theft, yet at the same time are the biggest subscribers

And contributors to the cause.

>From a marketing perspective, these promotional campaigns do work. After all
I am the man that went out and bought Joanna Newsom's Milk Eyed Mender CD
based on an 8 second burst of This Side of the Blue on a UK Orange mobile
phone ad. Yet watching a pre release copy of say The Da Vinci Code
accompanied by a soundtrack of someone eating a packet of Quavers and
complete with people with large hair crossing the screen at random
intervals, would certainly not float my model boat.

This level of debate shows that lots of people care a lot about what is
going on out there, and that in itself is very reassuring.
