Great observations, Ned, and I'm reminded of how amusing all the projections were.

This was my first time seeing Sparks with a full band since - gasp -1984. Amazing that I was able to see them and remember the details being in my mother's womb at the time. I've thoroughly enjoyed each of the 6 Sparks shows I've been to, but (as Will mentioned awhile back) there is something missing without live guitars and bass. Dean, Josh, and Steve added tremendous power to the songs. I expected them to rock this time, but was stunned by the energy and aural dynamism of the band.

The full album performance has grown on me, as well. I shrugged a bit when we first heard this is how it would again be done, but by the night of the show, I was so enamored with the album that I wanted to hear it played at once like that, and I've come to think this, for Sparks at least, is really the way to do a concert. I'm hard pressed to think of anything they could have done to make this show better, and I hope they too had as much fun as it looked like they were having.

Yep, Ned, another Orange County guy here, Aliso Viejo being home. All this time I didn't realize any of the L.A. contingent on the mael-list were from the OC. I would have offered up a ride myself had your circumstances become known earlier. But then you'd have had to patrol around Beverly Hills and Hollywood people watching with us all afternoon. :) We fumbled onto some strange avant garde art show/sale on the tree-lined streets of Beverly Hills and just had to get out and find out just what the hell was going on. Just a bunch of rich people selling and buying and inspecting 'art'. It was actually pretty entertaining. Then realizing this was near where the first night of the Manson murders took place we went up Benedict Canyon to look at the house. Ooooohhh.... Perhaps it's best not to associate with us after all. After the show we joined the weird life forms who mill about the streets of Hollywood for awhile, and there are thousands of them. I don't get up
that way that often anymore, so it's quite a lot of fun when I do.

And I agree completely -- bring on the next L.A. concert!

  - David
