I agree, it's a great song. Interestingly, at the time it was discovered
Russell apparently confirmed it's title but in some correspondence I had
with Martin Gordon he told me he didn't remember it at all and he
claimed to have a very good memory for these things.

The song is really called "Gimme Cigarette", I was "Marc Question"
(Keyboard / Mellotron player - actually a modified Chamberlain) on that
1978 release (1976 or 1977 recording). Lonny Carlysle was actually Philo
Cramer, who went on to join LA punk band FEAR later that year. 
There was never any intention to fool anyone - I just heard about this
misunderstanding myself, and I am ...quite amused, actually. We were,
and are, major Sparks fans, obviously. If you check my blog I think I
even posted links in a couple of entries. 
Some interesting connections though - Philo graduated from UCLA (I think
there is a UCLA connection to Sparks) and in 1977 I was in a band called
The Late Show featuring Chris Silagyi, who went on to join 20/20 which
included some original Sparks members. 
I would be very interested to hear where this all started. I am sure
Philo will consider this a compliment, to have actually been mistaken by
some folks as being Msr Mael. If anyone is still interested, you will be
able to obtain copies of the original song (which sounds a little
different than the version on my site) and the flip side, Oh!Oh!Oh! from
S-S Records later this year.
