Gut Records has released the double A-side single, ‘Dick Around’ /
‘Waterproof’ on enhanced CD in the UK. Included on the CD are the
videos for ‘Dick Around’ and ‘Perfume’ and a live audio version of
‘Change’. Plus a specially recorded interview with the Maels and
Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) which is far more ‘adult oriented’ than the
single’s title!

The controversy begins: 'Dick Around' single banned by the BBC!
Despite the fact that Ron and Russell were invited into the studio as
guests of the Breakfast Show on BBC London 94.9FM, the host Jono
Coleman was banned from playing the single 'Dick Around'. Jono and
his co-host Jo good were obviously embarrassed - particularly as they
quite clearly knew that the term means wasting time. The Maels were
upset that they had been asked to be interviewed live in the studio,
and then not have their single played.

Ron Mael this morning raged: "the BBC has officially killed off our
new single 'Dick Around', ostensibly through rather childish
objections to the title, an innocent reference to the idle life. That
a piece of music can be condemned purely by its title without the
'decision makers' even having the decency to open the CD case is a
travesty and an insult to both us as the creators of the music and to
the listeners of the BBC."

Russell Mael responded: "The reaction from the public to this record
has been nothing but positive, so the bcc should stop trying to be
the morality police when it is so clearly misplaced."

REVIEWS:
“Impressively sharp. Infectious yet audacious, avant-garde yet
commercial. On ‘Dick Around’ Sparks close down the competition. A
towering hybrid of choral splendour and metal thunder.” - Uncut

“Definitely pop, but not as we know it. A sweetly brain-scrambling
experience.” Q

“Put this [the live show] on in the West End and it’ll never close.”
- Classic Rock
