Two more pieces...
the first from Uncut, the second a rather lovely letter and response from one
Steve Morrissey to NME as features in 'The Book of Reveleations 2' free with
Uncut this month:
Chris Roberts writes
"Twenty-first from durable pop duo proves cause for celebration.
Before even the 70's were out, Sparks had mastered and subverted glam rock,
Moroder disco and most points in between. 37 years since their debut, the
endless metamorphosis continues with another fireball of unpredictability.
Honing the bizarre ghostly pop-opera styles of their last two works, this
expertly dovetails farce and pathos on songs like 'Lighten up, Morrissey.
Catchy single 'Good Morning' acknowledges the existence of both lust and
god, proving that the Mael brothers remain matchlessly inquisitive and open
minded."
NME letters page:
"Today I bought the album of the year. I feel I can say this without
expecting several letters saying I'm talking rubbish. The album is Kimono
My House by Sparks. I bought it on the strength of the single. Every track
is brilliant, although I must name "Equator", "Complaints", "Amateur Hour"
and "Here in Heaven" as the best tracks, in that order."

Migawd. Conviction oozes from every sentence like the very ichor of life
itself from the metal life support systems of the Bronze Giant of Fangorak.
The Eyes of MR Morrissey gleam with missionary zeal that shames into
submission the cringing doubts of those yet unconvinced. Me? I dunno. I
ain't heard the thing. S'pose it's aright though. -CSM
I presume CSM is Charles Shaar Murray....
