[Mael-list] Sparks Sponsorship

Point well taken, Steve, but I have no beef with it, either. Frankly, I think the media will largely or completely ignore the sponsorship aspect, and they'll ignore how it's labeled. Why does it have to be serious commercial sponsorship to fit into the definition of "sponsorship?" On a smaller scale, isn't it really what we're doing? Maybe it would be a nice touch if in the official programme there would be a complete list of everyone who bid (in small print!) And there are a lot crummier ways to help raise a little extra funding than having some devoted fans get to meet R&R and get their name in lights alongside the boys. We're a hard group to please. They aren't doing it for their health, of course, nor out of charity to us, but I also look at these 21 gigs as an investment in us, the fan community. I'm halfway around the world and won't get to see a moment of them, but it's great that they're doing this, and don't find the sponsorship thing tacky in the
slightest.
Cheers,
David

Of course they have a right to recoup costs. The point is how this thing looks as currently presented e.g. for journos visiting the gigs when the program says sponsored by Mr and Mrs Smith or whatever there is definitely an opportunity for easy humour.
I just especially wish they didnt call it sponsorship, because its not a serious commercial sponsorship deal.

Have to say, it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Thing is 21 entirely different gigs is going to take much more in the way of rehearsal ad therefore much more in the way of paying wages. This can't be a cheap endeavour for the band and recouping the money spent on that and standard gig costs is unlikely to happen merely by the takings on the door. PLus here's the cost of accommodation for a month. When it boils down to it, they ain't doing this for their health and they have every right to recoup costs however they see fit. I'd love to say I'd been able to help them do their thing. Sadly, I don't have any cash.... :-( Will "I only want to live in peace, plant potatoes and dream" - Tove Jansson Listen to Vest For Tysso at www.myspace.com/vestfortysso
