Hi Folks,
I've been so damn busy lately I haven't had time to report on the blues adds. Loads of blues festivals this past month, lots of overtime at work and I was in Norway at the beginning of August. Anyhoo...I have been putting stuff out, so here it is. This should help us get caught up for the moment...
1. Muddy Waters "Breakin' It Up, Breakin' It Down" (Sony)
- Live recording of later period Muddy Waters from the 70's featuring James Cotton and Johnny Winter.
2. Popa Chubby "Electric Chubbyland, Vol. 1" (Blind Pig Records)
- blues rock guitarist Popa Chubby records his tribute to Jimi Hendrix which includes familiar songs like "Manic Depression", "The Wind Cries Mary", "Foxy Lady", "Red House", "Purple Haze" and "Third Stone From The Sun"
3. Popa Chubby "Electric Chubbyland, Vol. 2" (Blind Pig Records)
- 2nd volume in Popa Chubby's tribute to Hendrix series including the songs "Little Wing", "Voodoo Chile", "Bold As Love", "Fire" and others.
4. Elvin Bishop "Booty Bumpin'" (Blind Pig Records)
- Live recording from this well known guitarist who performed with the Paul Butterfield Blues Band back in the late 60's. Features special guest John Nemeth on harp.
5. Mike Milligan & the Altar Boys "Going Up" (Doc Blues Records)
- A contemporary set of modern blues with funk and gospel influences by this Texas based band.
Other recently added titles
1. Chris Whitely "Dislocation Blues" (Rounder Records)
- Last recording before his death in 2005 featuring Chris on national steel and Jeff Lang from Australia on lap steel performing acoustic country and delta blues including Robert Johnson's "Hellhound On My Trail"
2. Dennis Binder "Hole In That Jug" (Earwig Records)
- pianist Dennis Binder was featured on dozens of recordings in the 50's on labels such as Sun, Chess, Modern, Crown and United. He returns for a set of traditional Chicago blues on his first solo outing of his career.
3. Chet Cannon "Don't Get Me Started" (Self Released)
- Harp player from San Diego swings his way through a set of West Coast styled Jump Blues.
