I think Lyla is great. Melody, vocals, production,
chorus, the whole lot. And for those holding out for
another Live Forever, or Wonderwall, or whatever (no
pun intended!), dont hold your breath.
Noels going on 38 now, there wont be another
Definitely Maybe, there will be no US resurrection.
Im not suggesting that we lower our expectations, but
it seems that many people (both here and on the
forums) are wishy-washy and hesitant to say how they
feel about the song without going back to the past.
For where Oasis are in 2005, I think its great.
Everything else aside, I think its great. Its a
good stomp! But its cool if you dont share the same
sentiment, although its not necessary to lay it out
in context of where the band needs to go, whether its
a step in the right direction, etc.
Oasis havent lost their glory, theyve just grown old
like every other band must. In fact, Im willing to
say theyre in better shape now than most Rock bands
are at their age. From the Stones to AC/DC to the Jam
to whomever, most bands 10-years-on have already made
their last great album and will make 1 or 2 more good
ones if they're lucky, if they havent already
disbanded (most have).
My girlfriend, who has endured more than her share of
Oasis music over the last many years, considers Lyla
her favorite Oasis song. She actually said that! She
loves it, my sister loves it, even the people on the
Punk Ottawa forums like it (of all places), and I
think a lot of people will... except for many Oasis
fans. Weird.
