Hi Guys,

I've not posted for a while but thought I'd send my thoughts as written for
my website:

It's a little UK focussed but I don't think it matters!

An Oasis of Truth

Monday sees the release of the long awaited 6th album from the most
successful charting act of the last ten years.

Once again Oasis are set to come crashing in on a wave of press coverage and
take your life by storm. Their latest offering "Don't Believe the Truth"
follows the worldwide success of the first single "Lyla" released a couple
of weeks previously. The talk is as ever of the make or break album, in much
the same way as its three predecessors. And what an album it is...

Turn Up The Sun

Probably most similar to Hello as an album opener, this tune sets the scene
for the album nicely, Love one another, Come on, turn up the sun, turn it up
for everyone - typical Oasis, and as predicted somewhat back to their early
days.

Mucky Fingers

This has to be my favourite tune on the album - Noel Gallagher doing what
Noel Gallagher does best. Magic Pie has a new big brother in Mucky fingers -
Noel educates us on the meaning of life and just how much we're missing the
point. Pure Arrogance, pure Oasis.

Lyla

We've all heard it, we'll all carry on hearing it, Roll With It can now be
put to rest.

Love Like A Bomb

Very You've Got To Hide Your Love Away, and very catchy indeed. This is
another example of the Oasis master class. With Manchester's rollercoaster
band continuing in their trademark style, the lyrics You turn me on, loves
like a bomb, blowing my mind bear similarity to the absolutely mind blowing
The Fame which backed up the All Around The World single. Definitely single
potential.

The Importance of Being Idle

It sounds to me like this tune is about going from months of touring and
recording to doing absolutely nothing, and how great that is. This is the
kind of song you'd normally find on an Oasis b-side, and another Noel vocal
classic.

The Meaning Of Soul

This is definitely a new direction for Oasis - not least because its only a
minute and forty seconds long - a distant cry from the 7 minute epics of Be
Here Now. It's a high tempo, drum filled instruction manual of the
importance of Liam in his world.

Guess God Thinks I'm Abel

This to me is the odd one out on the album, it almost sounds like Liam has
just found out about mortality. It's certainly going to be a favourite with
the less rock and roll obsessive amongst the fan base, but somewhat pulls
down the energy of the album, and sounds like the band haven't quite given
it their all.

Part of the Queue

Here's the tune Mucky Fingers beat to number one - absolutely fantastic,
lyrically quite depressing, overall strangely uplifting. Guitars, drums,
piano, lyrics that fill the room - absolute class.

Keep The Dream Alive

I hate to say it, but I can hear Maggie May in this tune. Fortunately
though, Liam's voice lends itself well to the whining lyrics. You can
clearly hear the Hurricane #1 influence in this track - and there's nothing
wrong with that at all. Where real life and dreams collide, even though I
fall from grace, I will keep the dream alive sounds almost Cast-like, and
perhaps there is a subtle influence there - John Power's band did after all
support the Gallagher's at their biggest gig to date.

A Bell Will Ring

Here's the anthem. The Champagne Supernova of the decade A little space, A
little time, see what you can do belts out the intro in the same quiet
unassuming way as its Morning Glory counterpart before blasting into what
promises to be a classic live epic. The constantly repeating and I will be
by you puts the tune in the league of Acquiesce and Stay Young. Anthemic
Oasis makes a welcome return.

Let There Be Love

The closing track has been doing the rounds for years on bootlegs, but this
duet between the brothers Gallagher closes the album phenomenally well,
perhaps even better than Married with Children closed Definitely Maybe.
Rumoured to be the forthcoming single, I think we can safely predict more
time at number one for the boys. Unless the Crazy Frog or Acorn interfere of
course.
