[Whatever] My Take on the Album... (AKA Some Annoying Babbling for You)

The album's pretty good. I have to say I was kind of nonplussed by Lyla and
worried the whole album would be a let-down. Anyways... I'm going to buck
common consensus and say I don't like it as much as Heathen Chemistry (why
does it seem like everyone's so down on that one lately?), but it's miles
better than SOTSOG and truckloads better than I expected after hearing
Lyla. Since Eric said he wanted my thoughts before (I'm not sure if anyone
has ever WANTED to hear my thoughts before... *L*), here you go...

[gratuitous album opinions]
I can't stand "Mucky Fingers". Bad title. Bad melody. Scratch that, NO
melody. What happened there? It's my new least favourite Oasis song,
knocking "Who Feels Love?" right on it's "Where'd the rest of the melody
go?" ass. Even Noel's vocals can't save this one... and you know that,
coming from me, that says a LOT, people. The title makes me feel vaguely
dirty... and not in that fun spanky way, either. Dreadful. "Love Like a
Bomb" is really cute. I'm always disappointed when it's over, because it
just feels too short. "The Importance of Being Idle" is one of my
favourites... Love it :) Admittedly, the beginning keeps making me think
someone's about to be beheaded, but that's probably just me. *sheepish
look* "The Meaning of Soul" is good, but keeps leaving me thinking, "Where
did the rest of the song go?" It reminds me of Catatonia's "Apple Core"...
The actual song is a B-side and there's just a segment/mix version on the
album that doesn't feel like a complete song. Weird. "Guess God Thinks I'm
Abel" or, as I like to call it, "Is This A Typo Or Has Someone Gone Mad?"
The lyrics are dreadful. Verses are unpleasant. Chorus is okay. The lyric
"Let's go find a rainbow" makes me want to... do something. I'm just not
exactly sure WHAT, because I'm too busy being baffled by hearing "Let's go
find a rainbow" in a rock song. "Part of the Queue" is excellent. My second
favourite on the album :) Sounds a bit like Badly Drawn Boy, only with more
punch... which is just excellent, in my opinion. "Keep the Dream Alive" and
"A Bell Will Ring" are solid tunes. No complaints there. (Same with "Turn
Up The Sun", which I know I skipped at the beginning there.) I was worried
that "Let There Be Love" wouldn't live up to the demo we all know and love,
but I think it actually surpassed it. It's excellent and, in my opinion,
the best track on the album... and I dare anyone to disagree, because I'll
punch them in the nuts if they do.

So there you have it. I like it... it's a solid album. Even better, now
that I've given my opinion, I'm going to go look at who wrote each song.
Yep, I purposely avoided finding out who wrote what until I heard it all...
so I could critique stuff on its own steam without letting any bias get in
my way. Although by reading that interview, I now know Liam's responsible
for the head-scratch-inducing "Let's go find a rainbow" and the Abel/Able
confusion. Why does this not surprise me? *baffled by Liam on a regular basis*

Oh... And don't even mention the Chicago concert around me. I'm totally
bummed out. I'm too darn broke to go to concerts... and this is the first
Oasis one I'll be missing since I started going in '96. *sigh* Well... I'm
sure it'll be good, so everybody who's going, have an extra good time on my
behalf ;)

Shari :)

"I suppose if people start going bald, once the hair starts fallin' out,
it'll be time to reconsider one's position. If Steven Tyler was bald, let's
face it, would anybody buy his records? No." - Noel, on the end of the band

"They always frustrate me because they sound like they're having more fun
making the record than I am listening to it. And the first minute of any
Gorky's single you think, 'Yes! This is their hit at last!', but then off
they go somewhere weird." - Billy Reeves (theaudience), on Gorky's Zygotic Mynci
